Email – Use your own domain
I admit it – I have a bias. I believe that all businesses should use email addresses on their own domain versus a mail service (like @Yahoo or @Gmail).
Why? The firstreason is that is looks more professional to use your own domain. But, the second and most important reason is control. Too often, people using ISP or free accounts don’t really know how the spam controls, reviewing, back-ups or other features work. Many of these services support so many email accounts that they use rather draconian practices to block suspected spam. If you miss an important email, wouldn’t you want to know?
Also, if you switch your ISP or change your main home page, you shouldn’t have to change your email address. If you use an account on your own domain then you control where it is hosted and it is independent of your networking. That way, you can choose DSL, cable modem, or any medium you like.
